just curious

#1 Post by 75RR » Sat Dec 19, 2020 3:19 pm

.
This image is from an Olympus BH2 for sale on ebay, curious as to what might have caused this

Looks melted, assume it therefore must be plastic but still not sure how it might have happened.

My theories in order of probability.
1. A Hotplate was left on and the condenser was placed on top of it
2. The kitchen counter and home lab are one and the same.
3. The ham and cheese Hot Pocket the owner was eating spilled over the condenser, ( never microscopy and eat at the same time)
4. The listed price is too hot for ebay. :D

It looks like it should still function properly. It looks like a melting of ABS plastic. You would have great difficulty attempting a repair. The stuff does not sand l, cut, or grind well. If it is still adjustable, count it lucky and leave it alone.
