More spam

#1 Post by Greg Howald » Wed Sep 21, 2022 1:57 pm

I've learned a lot from this forum in recent years and have appreciated it all very much, but this morning there a nine new posts concerning sports. It has reached the point of being more than disappointing. :| :(

Yes, it looks completely neglected, a shame. I feel it will all go down soon enough, The whole situation is kind of disrespectful to the active members. It is privately funded so there isn't much to do about it...
If we had an alternative I'd use it, but there aren't any except for the photomicrography.net, but that one looks like being completely photo oriented.

I suppose that www.photomacrography.net was intended,
which does lack "microbe" aspects.

It's mac, not mic...

Spam reported here rarely endures for more than another day or so;
reporting it seems not much bother.

That domain is for sale...

Yes .net, I just wrote it not thinking much I'll edit...

I like this forum and community, although I'm fairly new here. So feel it might deserve a bit more care.
Although it does have it's charms the way it is, without too many rules to follow, a bit chaotic, without sticky topics or some rigid organization etc. Maybe it is all good like it is...
The spam does get deleted soon, that is true...
So thanks for the good things here.

Replace "mic" with "mac" and it will be good

Amen. After putting a fair amount of effort on an entirely unrelated website and getting mostly complaints,
other interests beckoned. This is a great resource with no ads.

I think on the "Join the forum" page
there should be a statement there saying something like-

This is a microscope users forum. If you intend to post any posts not directly concerned with microscopy then do not join.
We do not want your posts.

Then it would be nice as well if a "moderator" would clean up the board at least once a week.

Spam is annoying and it would be great to deal with it.

On the other hand, how wonderful is this community that works smoothly without active moderation?

I don't really let it bother me. Just saying some measures to be taken.
Yes, doesn't need much moderation at all.

This truly is one of the finest. Few places operate this well without constant governance.

Though it would be nice if there were some moderators capable of deleting the trash. I don't think there is any shortage of volunteers.
