Unlike every other form of photography, microphotography sees sensor resolution value fall off a cliff after 100x. Oliver has a good video detailing why anything over 8Mb sensor size is wasted beyond moderate magnifications. I sometimes wonder if the megapixel arms race is only relevant crammed in the isles of a retailer where it's possible to see the difference.
