Timeless

Starting with an outline
that gets quickly filled
until it takes
night-times to recite.
We laugh we speak
we endure and the days pass
as we toss aside confusion.
The parts of our lives
remain respectfully apart
and our guardians are alert.
So we carry on quietly
with precision, our fingers
on the parts of the past.
We move them and hide them.

One day the past may shimmer
into invisibility. What was new
may become nightmare
we may spend daytime fearing.
One day we may lose the
tools of the day and begin
to spend our wakefulness searching.
One day time may erase itself
and we may stand without
a reliable next in a vacuum-storm
that steals the future. We may
reside in a large chair waiting
to be instructed.
