microscope table ideas

#1 Post by cpsTN » Mon Dec 28, 2015 3:44 pm

With just a monocular compound and a small stereo scope for now, possibly moving to larger scopes in a couple months, my space requirements aren't vast. I am thinking of a space about 36" by 18" (91 by 45cm), but, since the price of buiding it will be relatively tiny, I'm leary of building to small. I need space for eccesories and growth, but I don't want it to be overly large either. My concern is depth, forward distance away from a seated position, the 18" (45cm) measurement mentioned above. I am only 5'4" (163cm) tall. This will be inside the house. I was thinking with such a small size, I could buy a premade shelf or two and attach legs and bracing framework to it, making it about 24" (61cm) high. What things should I consider that I am not necessarily considering now?

The nice thing about building your own table/bench is that you can have anything you want. Your microscopes are pretty small so a massive unit is probably not necessary, but since you are planning to grow you should build for the future. Stability is probably the most important feature followed by suitability for your needs and preferences,

I spent a lot more for a simple table just to have it my way... always fun.

I used a fold-up card table for years. Not the best, but it worked. Recently upgraded though.
