My Microscope is a converted vlogging cam-Idolcam

#1 Post by jascamera2002 » Sun Dec 13, 2020 2:46 pm

New to this, not sure at what magnifications would consider a microscope. Recently got a microscopic lens for my vlogging camera and I am able to zoom into things quite a bit. Turns out to be a lot of fun zooming into things, Look forward to learning more about the microscopic world.

Technically I would say that was macrophotography.

There is a specific forum for that where any questions you might have are more likely to be answered.

More pedantically, I would say it’s photomacrography ... but what’s in a name ?

Welcome to an exciting new world jas

They do use the term photomacrography over on the https://www.photomacrography.net/ forum I linked to, but to my mind macro-photography rolls of the tongue nicely.

And yes, its all about little things ;)

Hi,
welcome to this forum!
Your images look good so camera and microscope objective seem to work together well. Your special approach might make it possible to work on topics outside the usual range. What type of camera is this and how do you like it? Can you do time lapse videos with it? Does it offer a live view image control on PC or phone display?

.
For what it’s worth:
The transitions between the various terms are indistinct, but it is accepted that the terms Photomicrography and Microphotography are ‘poles apart’ and can be thought-of as sitting either side of Same-Size
Ref. http://www.georgiamicro.org/photomicrography.pdf

... It then seems obvious that there should be a similar distinction between Photomacrography and Macrophotography. [ the use of Capitalisation and Hyphenation being optional ]

Thank you guys, surprise to see this many reply, most forums these days are not very active.

I thought I saw guys on this forum took really cools microscopic photos with Nikons and Canons, I guess they just use DSLR to capture the images on a microscope.

"MicroBob" Using a new camera brand, Idolcam, better known as a youtuber cam. But they recently have an accessories lens, so I got one and turns out to be quite fun to play with especially spending so much time indoor these days.

What make a microscopic and macro-photography? Is it the subject matter or the magnification?

I am still a bit confuse, look forward to learn more :)

Hi Jason,
I think you really forgot to mention that you are doing product placement here, since you are Idolcam in person.
Doing this openly is one thing but just entering the forum and pretending to be a macro photo newbie is an other thing - not my thing.

Joining to sell things is against the forum rules and no, your camera does not qualify as a microscope.

Didn't mean to disturb here. I am genuinely interested in learning more about Microscopy.

I have been a pro photographer for many years and worked on drones for many years as well. Always seeking interesting perspectives and macro/micro photography seem to be very interesting.

It's been a while since I have an urge to learn about a photography genre. The last time was RC helicopters and drones.

I will stay in the background and learn and maybe a few occasional questions time to time.

Take care and have an warm holidays guys!
