Bought a new digital microscope

#1 Post by DonSchaeffer » Sun May 23, 2021 8:17 am

I like to photograph from a stereo microscope perspective but using a camera with the sttrreo scope is cumbersome. I have two digital scopes which sort of do it but they need to go through my computer camera software which is not adequate. I bought another digital microscope which does not need the computer, saving images to a micro SD card. It was not expensive and will fill thar gap. Microscope really do multiply.

Thanks, Don. I'm looking at options for a stereo but this looks interesting as well.

i have both--i wanted to take--3d microscope type pictures. Price was a consideration. This one was only $70 on Amazon. It looked indistinguishable from others that cost double that.

How do you like that kind of microscope, compared to a regular stereo microscope with a separate camera? I checked the Tomlov site, and they show models with screens as big as 7" or 8" (I don't know what else changes). Does the screen integration cause any loss in "flexibility"?

The Tomlove came today and I just started playing with it. It comes with the same alumimum mount I bought for my other digi scopes. It feels quite sturdy once you get all tightened up. The system is quite easy to use once you read the instructions. I took a few practice pictures. The digital image on the 4.3 inch screen looks a little like the view from the stereo microscope, without the brilliance and the sharpness. It will do if I want to document what I saw in the stereo scope. I have only tonight seen the images on the microscope screen. Tomorrow I wiĺl actually download some test jpegs. All in all I have high hopes for this.

By purchasing additional equipment you could achieve better image quality.

The point of this digiscope is that it takes pictures to jpg files on a memory card. I can process the images through normal photo software. The other digiscopes require the computer and the camera software only minimally supports digital microscopes.

Thanks. These pictures are good enough for me. This microscope would be used mainly by kids, so simplicity is important.

Thanks Challenger. It sort of does the job. I don't want to pay for an equivalent eyepiece camera for the stereoscope.

I use a projected flashlight aimed from the side to provide highlights and shadows. I think it helps. The straight-on LED in the camera seems to flatten everything.

Do you constantly plan to illuminate samples in this way, or do you still plan to purchase better and more stable lighting for your workplace?

I am a poor hobbiest. I think what I have is good enough. I did replace the flashlight with a dc current projected led. I gave up (trying to sell) my stereo microscope in favor of a Tomlove digital microscope.

Your images look good Don. I have one similar to yours.
Ease of operation is readily noticeable. I hope you enjoy it. I use mine often.
