My new Olympus
My new Olympus
It may be more than 20 years old, but it's clear it was treated well before landing on my desk. So it's really only new to me. I had been using what would be called a decent high school level educational microscope, but the optical performance of the BH2 beats it by a wide margin. The new scope has a set of Dplan objectives, 4x, 10x, 40xand 100x oil and a pair of WHK-10x eyepieces. All the controls are butter smooth. I love it! So, without further ado, here's a picture

Re: My new Olympus
Sweet.
Re: My new Olympus
I quickly made up a wet mount using a paramecium culture I have going and set it on the stage. The images just seem to snap into focus, and the detail is far better than my old scope. Another thing I noticed was switching between objectives never required more than maybe 1/4 turn at most of the fine focus knob to keep things sharp. Now once I get all the pieces to set my camera on its port, I'll be posting some pix.

Congrat for catching a smooth working sample (most .b… samples really require a good CLA).
Same appreciation here, when I moved from a Olympus student scope => E-series (already nice) => BH2 .
Be warned though, somehow they like company (I now have 2 of them in daily use).
DPlan objectives are worth te extra investment (and never ever try the 20* SPlan Apo, you will definitely want one).

Looks very nice! Glad this one worked out.
Re: My new Olympus
Congratulations to your new microscope! There is always a little gamble when buying a used microscope and obviously you won. Not only working nicely but also looking very little used.

Re: My new Olympus
Congrats! This is a sweet scope and should serve you well for many years. Of course having one myself I might be somewhat biased
The DPLAN objectives are very good, as you have discovered.

Re: My new Olympus
So far the N + 1 syndrome hasn't struck yet. I definitely plan to get a DPlan (or SPlan) 20x. In my OP, I indicated it came with a 20x, but that was a typo. That empty spot in the nose piece is just begging to be filled

Looks amazing! There's nothing quite like the feeling of buttery smooth controls and that firm satisfying click when things slide into place. Jealous of the trinoc head as well, been keeping half an eye on eBay because there's always another place to throw a few dollars
Re: My new Olympus
Congratulations. The BH2 is great.
Re: My new Olympus
I did find a nice Olympus SPlan 20x eyepiece. Not the APO, but still, it ought to meet my needs.
