Nachet NS400

#1 Post by ker2x » Sun Dec 26, 2021 7:42 pm

I got it for dirt cheap, it's not hopelessly broken but need some servicing.

A general view :

an totally FUBAR trinocular output (it's not dust or dirt, it's glue junk ... :o )

A temporary power supply I made, because the one I got was a fire hazard, I'll need a new new one, but at least this one won't catch fire :

A pdf of the original manual, in French (Nachet was a French company) :

It looks like it will be a very decent scope once you get it fixed up.

Is France the country of manufacture, or is Nachet a French importer/distributor?

Nachet began in 1833, possibly involved with Chevalier at the start. It became involved with Vickers in 1978, then became owned by Micro-Contrôle in 1985. Micro-Contrôle became part of Newport in 1992 and Nachet continued in France. They gave up in 2010. Another example of old world craftsmanship becoming too expensive for the market.

Yes, it's a French company and it was made in France.
I was told that this particular model was primarily used in the French Air Army (armée de l'air) for inspection of hydraulic oil.

Congratulations to this nice and unusual instrument. The production numers must have been small and the french government will probably have been the only customer. There is a french forum: www.lenaturaliste.fr, there will be someone who can help you with information and you may find wanted parts there.
It will be much better to get this one going than buying a cheap chinese amateur microscope. At first these research instruments appear to be overly complicated but after some time you will use it fluently without thinking.

They were first known as Nachet et fils (Nachet and daughter). Paris in the 1880s. There must be a story there.

My limted French has that as "Nachet and son." Who knows, had it been "et fille" the company might still be in business?

fils -> son
fille -> daughter

Otherwise, I just received (and tested) my bench power supply. HANMATEK HM310T 0-30V / 0-10A on amazon.

I can finally use it correctly by dimming the 100w halogen to 60w when required, saying my eyes.

I still need to figure out the Trinocular output mout for the tube, and a bunch of other stuff. but it's in progress :)
