1961 Petrographic Microscope Leitz Laborlux Pol

#1 Post by Alexander » Fri Jun 10, 2022 11:36 am

I would like to share some pictures of my petrographic microscope. It is a Leitz Laborlux Pol shipped to its customer in 1961. As the service label proves it remained in professional use for more than 30 years.

It features everything a petrographic scope should have:

- rotatable stage with scale and vernier
- pol-condensor
- build-in analyzer
- Bertrand lens with extra iris
- nose-piece allows separate centering for every objective
- build in illumination (originally 6V 2.5A incandescent light bulb but altered to a contemporary LED)

After more than 60 years everything still works.

Sad that MicrobeHunter has become a honey pot for spammers. And who imagines that's a good way to spend their life / earn a living?

Yeah, it's really starting to reduce my interest in the forum, unfortunately.

On GemologyOnline we require a user's first 5 posts to be manually approved. It involves more work but keeps things basically spam free.

Oliver - if you're listening in - I suspect several frequent and trusted posters would be willing to help you with moderation of your forum. At least to the extent of promptly catching or removing spam posts -- perhaps along the lines of Scarodactyl's suggestion.

These are a rising problem and if left unchecked will devalue your entire site - for everyone. Fewer posters, lower Google rankings, and so on. As an example, I've noticed the willingness of many forum members to help others has often resulted in new (and actual) posters saying that MicrobeHunter came up at the top of their search for information on entry level topics. This could end - and has ended at other forums. You've created one of the world's most-visited microscopy sites. It would be a shame to see it become of less value to its many current and prospective participants and your own sponsors as well.
