My Bausch & Lomb Galen11
My Bausch & Lomb Galen11
I bought this binocular microscope about 12 years ago as a standard Galen11 with plan objectives and halogen lamp. I converted it to LED after a while, then I bought the trinocular head (new old stock) from Millers in the US along with a set of phase objectives, Bausch and Lomb also new old stock and I bought a Bausch and Lomb phase condenser privately from a guy in the US.
Converting to LED 10 years ago meant I lost the dimmer ability, but rather than re converting it I fitted a variable ND filter (46mm) to the top of the light housing. I recently added a 5mp Omax camera instead of the cctv camera I had used before.
Until recently the scope has spent the best part of ten years on a shelf unused but my grandson recently became interested in microscopy and reawakened my interest which diminished after the microscopy forum I was a member of shut down.
Re: My Bausch & Lomb Galen11
In my "never to be humble" opinion, the Galen II is one of the best microscopes in its class, but you know that. I have converted quite a few to LED, but I have a 3W kit that allows for dimming and it is a big improvement. Keep the grandson involved and when he's ready for his own microscope give me a call.

Neat! This is a completely different looking phase setup from the b&l/Leica Galen (plan)phase set I have. I wonder if they are at all compatible.

Probably not. By tbe time they merged into Leica they were using a Chinese source vs the galen ii which was made by Kyowa in Japan. Not much relationship beyond the name and both probably taking design cues from Olympus.

Re: My Bausch & Lomb Galen11
The Galen III had decent enough optics but the construction was weak. The oil immersion front lens had a tendency to implode into the barrel. The system can also be found with the brand Cambridge on it. I don't think it was the microscope the Kyowa based model was.
