I had read that the correction in the Olympus optics was supposed to be very close to that in the LOMO optics, so I had to try it out. I replaced one of the Olympus eyepieces with a LOMO eyepiece and looked at a blood slide. Looking through both as one normally does, I could tell a difference, but not a huge difference, between the two. Using both LOMO eyepieces in the BH-2 yielded a very acceptable image, suggesting that the corrections are indeed quite close. Next I tried transplanting the Olympus 20x DPLAN objective onto the LOMO L-2-2. That huge DPLAN looked a little comical amongst the smaller LOMO objectives, but you know, it yielded a very nice image through the eyepieces. The very flat field of the DPLAN was very nice compared to the shallow field of the LOMO 20x APO. After going this far, I just could not resist the temptation of trying the LOMO trinoc on the BH-2. It seemed to fit into the BH-2 dovetail, and yielded a pretty good image. However, stepping through the OPTOVAR settings, when I hit the Bertrand Lens I could see that the alignment was off a fair bit. Its possible that the dovetails aren't a complete match or something. By this time it was getting fairly close to time for me to get up and go to work, so I put everything back where it is supposed to be and put the scopes, and myself, to bed.
I realize that this was far from a scientific comparison, and the lateness (earliness) of the hour could have been clouding my perceptions, but it was a fun experiment. I'll play with it some more sometime.

I am sure you know LOMO short barrel objectives don't perform well on a DIN scope without modification........
