OOPS,
OOPS,
I raised the bid $1.00 and was immediately, instantaneously!, out bid. I thought, this can't happen to me! So I raised the bid, again, $1.00 thinking I would immediately, instantaneously!, be out bid again... I was not, so I sat quietly, hoping to be "sniped" in the last micro-second. I was not!!!!
I am now the proud owner of an old black B&L.
Please console me.

Re: OOPS,
I especially relish how it came about, your gambit...a dollar up...an ending auction...right to the wire...and for a nice price it sounded like (between your lines)!
As I just shared in Kurt M's thread on his new stereo stand aquisition...'it must be in the air'...I just Ebay obtained a new...err family member...at a terrific price. all the best, Lorez. charlie guevara

Re: OOPS,
I pulled the photos off eBay and will add better ones when the scope arrives on Christmas EVE... when I plan to be aboard the HMS Cutty Sark with my good friend Captain Morgan sailing toward Tyrconnell to capture some Wild Turkey.

Re: OOPS,
To me, that thing looks like an AO Model 15 on New Year morning, its head all swollen up and about to explode...

Re: OOPS,
This model, in both B&L and AO models, carried the nickname of 'pigeon breast', for reasons that you sort of alluded to.
I believe that Mr. Bausch, Mr. Lomb, and Mr. American Optical were married to to sisters and got together on holidays to discus what they were doing at work.

Re: OOPS,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
My eBay OOPS arrived yesterday and is a 'refurbisher's' dream. The finish of the stand and all plated parts is in excellent condition and I am thankful for that as it is the part I agonize over when deciding how far to go in the process. Maintaining an original finish is most important, but some serious deterioration in limited areas needs attention, so here I'm fortunate. The mirror is in perfect condition and that is rare.
All of the original grease is still in place and quite stiff, but that is the fun part. A complete tear down is in order.
Sadly, due to really poor packing on the part of the shipper, one of the control knobs on the stage was broken off. At least the packing was good enough that the knob and washers were still in the box.
I would love to share photos, but my phone has decided to stop exporting images. I may as well have a bean can and string.

Re: OOPS,
As it happened, Santa, aka Lovely Wife had a very nice bottle of Glenlivet 18 yr scotchtape for me. That helped.
I have no idea of how the photos ended up on their sides as they are properly oriented otherwise. Possibly, you can see the knob of the stage is broken off.
That should keep me occupied for a while.

Re: OOPS,
Ouch. Well at least I know the best tool for that repair: a magic wand.

Re: OOPS,
I have not tested it yet, but I think I have a magic wand. We'll see on Monday. Other than the unfortunate damage the scope is in good condition. I have not tested the objectives so that's still a ??? The greases are as expected, all dried. The finishes on all the parts are in excellent condition so that part will be easy.
I like to try to imagine how the scopes of this era were used and try to duplicate illumination, etc., but the one thing that is most difficult to abide is the very small field. When you get used to 22 and 25mm fields it is a dramatic change.
