Watsons the name Microscopy the game.

To have a change of microscopy for a while, during my time of learning and practicing methods in microscopy we have to use certain instruments and these are microscopes. How did I know that you already knew this?
Well I thought I show my microscopes which are a few years old but give excellent images.
Shown are my Watsons compound microscope 1950, Watsons stereo 1960 and a Phase contrast along with a Polarizing microscope. I do have other microscopes that I lend out to friends and other micro minded people.

The first one is my Watsons 'Service' 1950 compound microscope.

And to finish off with my polarized. This was made by CTS who were later taken over by Vickers.

Beautiful! I always love seeing the "black beauties", and yours are certainly very lovely examples of these classic instruments! The Watson 'Service', is that a rotary mechanical stage? Bonus points if the answer is yes, and I'm pretty sure it is. Thanks for posting these, ex.

Hi Guys,
Yes Kurt it is a rotary mechanical stage. The scope has been in continual for a few years although it did have a holiday for about 10 years where the person who owned it became ill with the big C. He pulled through and decided that he would carry on in the microscopy world but no more making slides as he was not all that steady with the hands. So to cut a long story short he asked me if I could use the Watsons, I nearly jumped with joy and of course said yes please. So now I am the proud owner of two Watsons microscopes because a little while ago he asked if I would like the Watson Stereo. I did not know weather to kiss him or shake his hand. I shook his hand by the way.
The objectives that came with the service are;

Micro Plan (American 'Swift') X4 NA 0.10
Beck (London) X10 NA 0.25
Beck (London) X20 NA 0.54
Beck (London) X45 NA 0.65
Make not known X 78 no other information. This is an unusual dry objective Not Oil Immersion
'Correct' (Tokyo) X 100 NA 1.25 Oil Immersion.

Lighting is done by any type of bedside lamp or a set up of an A.C. Lighting Unit with variable power supply to a lighting arrangement.
The objectives I use in the Service at the moment are Beck X10, Beck X45, X78 as the nosepiece will only hold three objectives.
The image I get is as good as or if not slightly better than on a Leitz of a new microscope. (Cant remember the name of the Leitz microscope) it belonged to another microscopists.

Very nice microscopes! I also really enjoy hearing the stories of how people acquired their scopes. For me the stories aren't that grand; my Swift was a Christmas present, which was very cool -- It has a lot of sentimental value to me. My other scopes not so cool; I just bought them and they arrived happily in the mail.
