How important is the right eyepiece?
How important is the right eyepiece?
I recently purchased an American Optical 110 microscope at what I consider a good deal. It arrived with cat#145 eyepiece. I noticed that the instrument originally was marketed with cat #180 eyepieces. Will I notice a difference between the two?

Have you seen this page, with the words "eyepieces are quite forgiving", thats links to another with the title: "If it looks Good, it is Good"? I pass on the positive waves.

Probably not ideal. The 145s I think are stereo eyepieces, and ao stereos don't use color compensating eyepieces, while I think the 110 does? Apo will know for sure.

145 eyepieces will cause an annoying degree of lateral ca when used with the 34mm parfocal objectives. #180 eyepieces are needed. You could use 176 or 176A in a pinch but the f.o.v. is slightly smaller.bcjolly wrote:I recently purchased an American Optical 110 microscope at what I consider a good deal. #181 or 191 have less compensation than 180s and are only to be used with the 45mm parfocal objectives.
