Cleaning objective lens?

#1 Post by lotmids » Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:24 pm

I accidentally nudged the slide with the lens today and I think I got water on it. Ever since, I've really struggled to see anything through this lens - presumably because there's water all over it.

If it dries up naturally, will it be fine? Or should I clean it to be extra sure it's fine? If so - how do I clean it to ensure I don't damage the lens?

Gently remove water with lens tissue or a clean microfiber cloth (of the sort used for eyeglasses).

If a spot remains, see threads here on lens cleaner.

One hopes and expects it is water on the front elemnt rather than in the objective.

Nikon has a good downloadable piece on cleaning objectives. Link https://d33b8x22mym97j.cloudfront.net/p ... focal=none

Is it the case that isopropyl alcohol can never be used on lenses? I've read that it may degrade acrylic or certain optical components.
