Is my micro objective scratched??

#1 Post by Niuwbie » Wed Apr 07, 2021 3:15 pm

Hi.

I’m so sorry for this weird topic
It’s here for a short time, I just want to find some help on here

After I watched with immersion oil I cleaned an objective with simple paper. 100x and 40 x too because it caught a little bit of it too.

Now, it looks like this. Is is scratched, what do you think?
And if yes, how much could it cost to repair it?
thanks for any answer

Maybe it's a fingerprint?

I did clean it after with special wipes.. but it didnt go away.
And when I rotate, it doesnt go away, only after I change to another objective.

Lenses are probably not scratched. But are you sure it is the objective giving you this image. Do a test. Mount the objective in the proper position but leave it a little loose. Focus on the weird image. Rotate the objective to see if the image rotated also. If the image doesn't rotate, look elsewhere for the source. Microscopes can trick you. At higher magnifications discrepancies can appear that do not appear at lower magnifications.
So I would try that test first.

Second test. If the problem is the objective use BLUE Windex to clean it. The photo does a look like a smudge.
