this is amazing!
I bought one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Microscope-L ... 7675.l2557 a few weeks ago. It has battle marks, the eyepiece being the most annoying with lots of marks. But it was a bargain.
The first water sample I've took surprised me so much. Literally couple tablespoons of water from a nearby walking path. First day it was full of mobile diatoms. 3-4 kinds of them. And some paramecium like ciliates. Then everyday something new popped up in my slides from that sample. Rotifers, nematodes, lots of ciliates, ciliates eating diatoms, vorticella invasion and an vorticalla mitosis!, gastrotricha, ostracod, heliozoan and some testate amoebas. It gave me 7 days of entertainment. Then fungi started to grow. I thought it was time to say goodbye.
Two days ago I've picked up a moss looking thing. It was growing on top of some pebbles. 2-3cm big. I've put it in a jar with tiny bit water. Was expecting see some nematodes. And there were a lot of them with some rotifers. But also today this guy showed up from that sample: https://streamable.com/1u6gp8 Excuse the noise. It is mostly the eyepiece.
I just wanted to share. This is so exciting!

Awesome! Isn’t it just incredible what you can find in almost any drop of water? It blows my mind. Congrats on your finds!

I know what you’re experiencing! The different species showing up in the same sample where they were nowhere to be seen the day before. It’s amazing and puzzling and also very cool.
Glad you found a Tardigrade and a new hobby (obsession!).
Fellow newbie, Jim.
