Bausch & Lomb SZ4 Mirror Cleaning ?? Recoating ??

#1 Post by dazz » Sat May 08, 2021 1:43 am

Hi
Is it practical / economic to re-coat the mirrors on something like the Bausch & Lomb SZ4??

I am asking because the B&L SZ4 has been recommended but but it has mirrors that could be flawed or dirty.

Can B&L mirrors be safely cleaned? If so, how??
If the mirror finish is eroded/corroded (no damage to glass), can they be re-coated?? IF so where??

My reading indicates spare parts are hideously expensive.
If I buy on e-bay, I can't look before I buy and asking questions doesn't help much.

Probably easier and cheaper to just buy another one and hope for the best if cleaning doesn't work.

I have done it with ipa and fresh q tips (wt, wipe gently once, dry with another fresh one gently, discard bitha nd repeat if necessary). Generally you probably don't need to worry about them getting dirty if you treat them well, it's more about the last owner who might have used it industrially or something in a much rougher environment.
