Nikon Diaphot condenser

#1 Post by Chris1366 » Sat May 29, 2021 10:47 pm

Hi, I am new to this hobby, I purchased a Nikon Diaphot online last year. I had to clean it up quite a bit, but everything seems to work ok. One thing that I am struggling with is the resolution above 200x. I have been looking at various pond life, but am disappointed in the ability to see the fine details when using the 40x object with 10x eyepieces. It has the standard ULWD phase contrast condenser. The 40x objective is Nikon Plan PH3 DL 0.55 LWD. It seems like this objective has too high of an NA for the condenser. I have been looking for a 0.54 LWD condenser specifically for a Diaphot, but most of them cost more than I paid for the whole Microscope. I do see more of the Labophot condensers for less money, does anyone know if these will work on a Diaphot? Also, is there a limit as to how high of an NA I should go with? It seems like the Labophot condensers are usually 0.65 or more.
