Depth of field

#1 Post by smollerthings » Fri Sep 17, 2021 8:54 am

Hello everyone,

So I understand I can control the depth of field with the condenser. That works well in bright field. But is there a way to play on the DOF in dark field? My understanding is no but just want to confirm.

Thanks!

Not really, no. But if you have a magnification changer/ Optovar and a suitable set of objectives you can have the same mag at different NA, and thereby have at least two options for depth of field.

For example I have Neofluar 6.3x 0.2, 10x 0.3, 16x 0.4 and Planapo 25x 0.65 objectives, and the Optovar gives me the option to magnify each by 1x, 1.25x 1.6x and 2x. I wouldn't normally have all four on the turret at the same time except when doing photography in darkfield, where I can choose roughly the same mag with three different apertures.
