Phase questions
Phase questions
Can a negative phase objective be used with a positive phase condenser and vice versa?
Re: Phase questions
You'll find makers typically keep the same set of phase annuli in the condenser and just change the phase rings in the objectives to get various types of phase contrast.
Re: Phase questions
My Olympus BH2 and CH2 condensers accept both NH, NM, PL and PLL objectives.
As per Pete’s previous reply: the condenser phase plates are are the same.

Re: Phase questions
Perfect my setup is missing the 100X, this site is offering them in positive and negative, Im not sure if negative offers any benefits over positive at such higher magnifications. any advantages of one over the other?
Thank you.

Re: Phase questions
In general I prefer the Negative High, pond dipping is my main application area.
No experience though using the 100* as per the usual oil cleaning “objections”.

Re: Phase questions
they produce different contrast patterns you may prefer one or the other based on your usage and subjects
1942 Bausch and Lomb Series T Dynoptic, Custom Illumination
Re: Phase questions
Im having a hard time distinguishing between the two of them... probably due to a certain degree of color blindness
Would you call this positive or negative? https://youtu.be/SG_tT_oZDBc

Re: Phase questions
Each maker tends to make the size of the phase rings for various magnifications different from other brands. Sometimes close, sometimes not.
You can't assume that a 100x phase objective - say from that Boli Optics site - will work with the phase annuli in your (Leitz, Nikon, Olympus, Zeiss, etc.?) phase condenser.
