Cheap usb microscope

#1 Post by SWmicro » Sun Nov 14, 2021 11:50 am

Is anyone playing with a cheap "USB Digital Microscope" on Windows with a working zoom button ? It seems to be a common problem with them for it not to work !

I would like to know what the field of view (in mm) is with and without a press of the zoom button.

EDIT to add:- field of view (in mm) at either max or min zoom on the wheel thing !

thanks.

Sorry … I haven’t seen the specific device, but where is the Zoom button ?

I thought that the “Zoom” was controlled by the [straight-knurled] thumbwheel.

On the dark side lol! there is a button like the "Snap" button.

I should have edited to say that as well ;)

O.K. __ We’re getting there

I’m now guessing that the Zoom button must provide the dreaded ‘digital Zoom’ which effectively just reduces the pixel density.

… Assuming that no-one beats me to it : I will dig-around later, to see if I can find anything useful.

Thanks, yes you are right as we suspected, that doc says " and the
ZOOM button to have digital zoom function. "

I was surprised at first that it was not noted in the picture,
I have only had a quick first read but I dont think it says by how much

Edit ! yes it does =5x

, or if when in the fault condition of a non working button the digi zoom state is engaged or not :(

Edited previous post to say: 5x, and I have found another ref for a similar beast saying 5x also.

Now all I need is a base image field of view to work from.

Thanks yes they could be very useful, once I know it is the field of view of a good working one :)

However, meanwhile I prepared this for posting :-
Many adverts for these things make a point of saying the zoom button only works in Windows, not Mac or Android, yep knew that. But many users on the web also say it still doesnt work in windows, making me suspect faulty hardware (ie. could be stuck on or off) resulting in lots of cheap faulty ones on the'bay.

However after more googling it seems that there are also several windows softwares that do not recognize the zoom button either ! I have found only Amcap saying that it does.
Thus I suppose most times it is down to faulty software and most likely non-recognize means no 5x - - - so it should default to no zoom ?
