I've noticed that several forum members keep assorted jars around which contain various liquids/sludges/nasties. My questions are; (1) do you keep them sealed all the time, or do you open them occasionally to let them breathe, and (2) what results to you get from the contents of these jars?
Thank you.

Random bits of moss from local Devon.
Rainwater from the roof, just slosh it a bit.
So much in every drop, good variety.
I don't fix the lids down fully.

Ive been tending to a water sample i collected form an open steam i cake across while skiing. I use a glass fish bowl from a dollar store and added a small air bubbler to keep things happy since they came from a fast running river. I changed water with melted snow once in a while when bacteria started incrsasing in numbers the last few months.
The environment keeps changing no matter what i do and the critters along with it. Lots of lacramaria olor in the beginning that i thoroughly enjoyed watching but now their scarce. Vorticella showed up in some numbers for a while but now the diatoms have taken over and various flagella, it's kinda interesting to see the changes. Keep it open to air and as long as it's wet there will likely be something to see.
