Trinocular Tube Shaped

#1 Post by TangoTel » Wed Mar 15, 2023 7:58 pm

My microscope camera came with eyepiece adapters. However, I want to use the trinocular photo tube which is a different shape (see attached image). Do I need an adapter to make a better fit than just putting in an eyepiece adapter? Thanks

You will need the appropriate ‘male’ dovetail to fit into that

See here for an example: http://www.alanwood.net/olympus/eyepiec ... l#dovetail
… that’s for Olympus, but it nicely illustrates the principle

What is your microscope ?

Thank you for your reply. The microscope is a Brunel Scholar (similar to SP-52. It came with a digital camera, second image attached.

If I've understood Alan Wood's web page then there might be two options. One: as you suggest, a male dovetail adapter to fit the trinocular part (38.03mm max opening) that would accept the cameras eyepiece connector (23.15mm diameter with adapters for 30.0mm and 30.5mm) presumably without additional lenses incorporated.

Would a possible option Two: be to replace my existing female dovetail with an adapter connecting the trinocular tube (29.05mm external diameter) directly to the camera C-mount screw?

I've had a look on eBay and some suggest have a use for CCTV or video. Most sourced from China. Not sure I have confidence when a sellers other listings are for mushroom garden ornaments.

Any further guidance gratefully received.

Aha … I see now that the female dovetail is detachable !!

… I had assumed it to be fixed in place.

That could make your life much easier.

Looks like the type I have on a GTvision XDY.
Turns out a 30mm eyepiece adapter fits securely and centres, holds APS-C Canon 50D which is no lightweight, using NDPL2X.
Camera port on this is on the side, inverted scope.
