Dipping Cone
Dipping Cone
This came with an objective I bought on Ebay as an 'extra'. The objective is a regular Nikon CFN 20x 0.50 160/.17. Can anybody tell me what it is and what it is used for? Thanks.

Re: Dipping Cone
Nikon made a series of finite water immersion objectives. This screws onto the end of the 20x version as a replaceable item. Those objectives look a bit like Nikon's "CFN" series with the three large knurled rings up top; but this part at the working end.
Re: Dipping Cone
Pete - Thanks. I have no use for it, so I will post it on the exchange forum - if someone wants it, send me a PM and I will send it for mailing cost.

Re: Dipping Cone
Looks like the top lens for the condenser but it's got no measurements with it.

Too many 'projects'
Re: Dipping Cone
FWIW, Michael, that image is the same as the ones I have (but modified for Hoffman contrast). If you have one, the cone should fit. These are dipping objectives, not meant for a drop of water over a coverslip (more like dipping into a Petri dish for electrophysiology, etc. applications).

Re: Dipping Cone
Sure looks like the part, I have a 20x .5 CFN. Never wished it could be dipped.
