#1 Post by Johann » Wed Jun 08, 2016 6:50 am

Saw my first "naked" amoeba, find them very fascinating.

Congratulations on getting a video of your first Amoeba sighting. What objective were you using?

Congrats, Johann. What were you examining when you found it? I saw my very first one just last month in the algae sediment at the bottom of a pet's water dish left outside. It looked very similar to yours, but unfortunately I did not have any kind of camera set up to get a picture. Still sort of a thrill though - I never ran across one as a boy.

Thanks Bill, it was 60x objective, and i zoomed in a little on my cellphone as well, which i used to take the video.

Jim, I also never saw one as a kid, but come to think about it, the "toy" microscope I had was probably never going to see them anyway ;)
I found this one while looking at diatoms i got from water puddle where my water mains come in. I used my cellphone to get the video, captured it straight through the eye piece, works perfectly.

Interesting to watch them "OOZE" along and nice results with your 60X. It must have been quite small.

Very nice video. I was thinking that I'd never seen an amoeba with such large particles inside, but then saw that this was with a 60x objective, so is the the amoeba that is so tiny relative to the particles. Very interesting. I don't remember seeing one that small

Yes great vid; these things are not very abundant in rivers you mainly find them in ponds where there is plenty of microscopical food about. Hear are a couple of photo's of an amoeba I found in a sample of pond water.

Thanks guys. Nice pics Exmarine, thanks for sharing.
This one was very tiny, almost missed it. I like the way it expels the particles as it moves along.
