Chapter XIV "On the Jewelled Microscope" is a jewel reading stuff itself. Had technology prompted microscope made of diamonds, rubies and sapphires, the current topic of used quality scopes vs new stencil scopes would not exist, since neither, whatever their mechanical state, would be within the budget of the average hobby user...
