Thanks for sharing this - very interesting. I wonder if microbial diversity is higher in these mountains as well, and perhaps provides at least part of the foundation for the more diverse macro-sized species. Or maybe there are just higher concentrations of microbes assisting in nutrient cycling, symbiosis, and etc.

Hi Bill,
you really come up with interesting things!
What I find funny: This study comes from Universtiy of Copenhagen, Denmark. Denmarks highest mountain is 171m high. This is roughly half of the highest mountain in the Netherlands, which are considered practically flat low lands! No Idea how they came to this research topic!

Thanks for the praise from all!.. I will try to post things that I think the members here would enjoy.. I am not a Biological specialist.. My chosen field was Mechanical Engineering, but I take interest in fine instruments, hence my attraction to microscopes and optics..

The Best,
BillT...

Very interesting. So much for the biodiversity in the Amazon rain forest and South America. To maintain Earth's biodiversity we just need to save the rugged mountains.

Yes, the rain forest contains such a variety of biodiversity, except the local governments prefer the money the trees bring in as lumber.. It will soon all be converted to tree stumps.... I am sure the mountains will be found to contain materials that have to be extracted...

The Best,
