first attempt at imaging

#1 Post by MickyFynn » Tue Dec 06, 2022 11:16 pm

HI
I am trying to figure out how to use my new camera. I am using a stereo microscope with a GX capture program
with a 5mp camera through the trinocular port of my GMX Zoom1 head. Can anyone offer any suggestions please?

Those look really good! What are you using for lighting?

It's cool that you uploaded the actual photos and not a hotlink to some offsite photoservice, which I, personally, never click.

Nice shots, by the way!

Micky,
Keep up the good work !
I'd love to see a lot of insect microscopy.

Good colours.
To me there is an effect that looks like motion blue.
Sometimes shutter shock causes it,
Can't think of anything in the setup that would give vibration other than manual shutter release.
Use a timer or remote to sharpen up?

I agree that there is something adding a bit of fuzz, although they are quite good for a modest set up. Better than I have ever done without fussing with the illumination forever.
Down in the bottom of the last image, a wolf spider I guess, there is a half moon shaped area of lighter colour than the surround : immediately under a limb. There is some grain there, which with a closer look seems to pervade the entire image and the others. Perhaps the 5 mp isn't enough when the camera is open wider with a slow shutter.
Maybe a bit of vibration too, since that would be more of a problem with a slow shutter.
These are issues I have run into that gave similar results.

There is no shutter on this camera just a 5mp c-mos sensor. I have fiddled around with certain imaging effects in the software
to try and get a passable image. Thanks for the comments...Mick

These images were taken from a short video. There is a stacking option in the programme which I used to render the images.

The video camera still has a shutter. Not the same type as a still frame camera but more of a spinning disc controlling frame speed. It could be affected by vibration and certainly by aperture.

Before I get too confused by the discussion … could you please identify the camera ?

Thanks

Thanks for the confirmation
… That’s what I had assumed

For the avoidance of doubt: That will contain no ‘moving parts’
