Sony phase contrast patent application.

In looking for some patents it appears there may be a new player in microscope manufacturing. Sony has a patent application for what appears to be a high resolution phase contrast technology, overcoming the resolution limitations of conventional phase. Unless, the purpose is for in house use.
Companies patent all kinds of stuff, much of which is production technology. American Optical had a lot of electronic patents, pacemakers, an electron microscope, a marker holder,....a glass razor of all things, made by fusing an insoluble glass blade with a soluble glass holder, so the blade could be drawn to less than 500 angstroms and then released from it's sharpening support by dissolving it with hydrochloric acid. Gillette got away lucky.

Who knows what they are up to . Kodak patented all kinds of microscope related patents.

They seem to be focused on detection. Maybe Sony will bring out a new version of Clue?

I read something about it being tied to a multilayer camera sensor, and that ties it back to Sony since they do camera sensors. But I need to re-read that and find a more detailed article.
