Difference of using Planapo 63x /1.40 Oil dic slider and Plan newfluar 100x /1.30 Oil dic slider?

Here you can discuss different microscopic techniques and illumination methods, such as Brightfield, Darkfield, Phase Contrast, DIC, Oblique illumination, etc.

Difference of using Planapo 63x /1.40 Oil dic slider and Plan newfluar 100x /1.30 Oil dic slider?

#1 Post by autumnwalk2 » Mon May 03, 2021 8:19 am

I have zeiss Planapo 63x/1.40 Oil dic objective but don't have a 63X/1.4 dic slider.
Therefore I have used 63X/1.4 objective with Plan newfluar 100x /1.30 Oil dic slider which I have instead of 63X/1.4 dic slider.
But, According to the optical aspect, when I use planapo 63X/1.4 objective I have to use planapo 63x /1.4 III Oil dic slider.
Is there any difference(resolution) using Planapo 63x/1.4 objective with Planapo 63x /1.40 Oil dic slider and Planapo 63x/1.4 objective with Plan newfluar 100x /1.30 Oil dic slider?
If there is noticeable difference, I have a plan to buy planapo 63x /1.4 III Oil dic slider.
If not, I would keep present way.
I will be very thankful for someone who has experienced to let me know it.

.
I think that a repeatable stationary subject like a Diatom test slide might make for a more useful comparison.

In any case, even though Zeiss did make dedicated DIC sliders for particular objectives,

a little experimentation has shown that a surprising number of objectives and sliders in various combinations can produce quite good results.

Thank you very much.
I read the link with interest.
I am inclined to try the same test with my objective.
So I have just ordered a planapo 63x /1.4 III Oil dic slider on ebay emptying my pocket.
I hope to get sharper images with new dic slider.
Getting significant results, I will post them again.

Here is my result of the testing above.
The image which Planapo 63X/1.4 objective with Planapo 63X/1.4 dic slider renders is much better than Planapo 63X/1.4 objective with Planapo 100X/1.3 dic slider considering resolution, contrast and background's degree of uniformity
But sometimes I enjoy the different mood of the background which Planapo 100X/1.3 dic slider gives. :D
