Uniform Illumination Sphere Light Source (UIS-LS)

Here you can discuss different microscopic techniques and illumination methods, such as Brightfield, Darkfield, Phase Contrast, DIC, Oblique illumination, etc.

Ooo. A $4,500 NIST calibrated reading lamp:

It makes me think that the entire interior of the sphere must be a mirrored surface and that the light source must be precisely centered. A rather pricey item.

You might find these documents [from different suppliers] interesting, Greg

It's usually a white diffusing paint. There are some that are built with 7mm thick Teflon PTFE on the inside. Others do have silver or gold lining with things like gold for IR ranges.

If you want a pricey item, NIST is selling a small jar of peanut butter for $1K.

Apparently, the calorie count is very very accurate, and it's how those calorie numbers on U.S. food package labels are calibrated. I'm assuming it's not because it's the best tasting:

No one would have believed in the last years of the 21st century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.”

I guess it does have a matching industrial design:
