Article on Coloured Phase Contrast Microscopy

I came across this article today on the idea of varying phase shift within phase contrast objectives to create coloured PC images.

Very interesting indeed. Apparently the idea was thought up of by Zernike himself. Has anyone here seen these objectives or tried this technique before? Would love to hear what people think of it.

While I'm on the topic, the Micscape Articles library has a huge collection of detailed write-ups on microscopy and various techniques, would highly recommend checking them out if you havent before.

There was a few contraptions on the market that did offer this-mainly in 60’s early 70’s-Nikon IPC unit-the almost extinct color Heine-AO polaret and I think another company I can’t think of-I bemoan the lack of this in modern scopes all the time…nice images on the first link
