Here you can discuss different microscopic techniques and illumination methods, such as Brightfield, Darkfield, Phase Contrast, DIC, Oblique illumination, etc.

Filter for phase contrast

#1 Post by Harold » Wed Jan 12, 2022 11:50 pm

I've finally got my dedicated BH2 phase contrast rig up and running. The instructions for the Olympus rotary phase contrast condenser recommend using their IF550 filter. I tried that and did not like the sickly green/yellow background it creates. Doesn't seem to do anything much for image clarity anyway. Does anyone know of a filter that might enhance PC images?

The green filter is the usual one for achromats; while one can leave it that nasty green, I think most convert it to greyscale (I do, on the times I remember to use it)
If you compare an image taken with and without, I suspect you'll find the one with it to be a bit sharper
