Bottom Illumination for a Digital or Stereo Microscope

I bought this inexpensive flat panel flashlight to provide below-subject illumination. It is flat enough that you can just put a slide on it under the lens. IThis model

has its problems. You have to use it on battery. If you power it with DC it shows lines. You also have to cover the light sensitive lens on the front or it thinks the illumination in the room is too light and dims the flashlight. It is, however, a useful method of seeing transparent subjects with my digital scope.
