Here you can discuss different microscopic techniques and illumination methods, such as Brightfield, Darkfield, Phase Contrast, DIC, Oblique illumination, etc.

Phase contrast upgrade to Olympus CX-41

#1 Post by Skywise » Tue May 23, 2023 3:22 am

I recently purchased an Olympus CX-41 microscope and I am interested in upgrading to to do phase contrast. I'm looking into the CX-PCD Phase contrast condenser, so my question is what objectives do I need to purchase? Obviously there are none at present.

Can someone explain the difference between the Olympus U-PCD, CX-PCD and CX-PCD2 phase contrast condensers? I want to buy the right one the first time.

The U-PCD is meant for Olympus BX microscopes, which have a different attachment than CX versions. As for the CX versions, Olympus typically adds a "2" when they update (commonly cost-reducing) the design. Not having had either version, I can't say for sure, but I suspect either CX version would fit and have phase annuli that work.
