This forum is now more secure

Dear Microscopy Enthusiasts,
I just want to inform you, that I have now implemented so-called "SSL encryption" to this forum. The functionality does not change, but the data is now encrypted automatically between you and my web host, where this forum is installed. When you look at the address bar of your web browser, then you should either see a small closed pad-lock and/or "https://" (and not http://). If you try to use this forum with the old http://, then you should be automatically redirected to the new https://.
There are some advantages to this. Some users were warned by their web browser that this site is not secure and this warning might have discouraged some to use this forum. These warnings should be gone now. Also, the speed should improve slightly and also the Google search engine rankings should improve. But most importantly, the trust in this website should improve. I decided to initiate this change after a user emailed me to tell me that he/she always receives browser warnings that this forum is not secure.
Just wanted to inform you. No action is required from your side.
Happy microbehunting,
Oliver.
