Hello everyone,
My name is Aydin Örstan. I joined this group a few days ago.
I first got interested in microscopy more than 40 years ago when I was in college studying chemistry. That was also when I discovered bdelloid rotifers and have been studying them on and off since then. I retired 3 years ago from a government job to spend more time with my favorite animals.
I have published a number of papers on bdelloids. Earlier this year, I described a new species in a new genus and a new family: https://www.biotaxa.org/Zootaxa/article ... a.4966.1.2
That was the first new family of bdelloids introduced since the early decades of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the paper is not open access, so if you would like a copy of it, please e-mail me in private.

A video featuring the new bdelloid species is here: https://youtu.be/oFXUKAAGYao

I use an Olympus BX50 with DIC optics. I also have a couple of stereomicroscopes, an Olympus SZ60 and a Zeiss Stemi 2000.

I hope to contribute to the discussions occasionally and perhaps learn new things here and there.
