Hello from Amsterdam

#1 Post by Sjeiti » Thu Feb 10, 2022 7:14 am

Hi everyone,

I am a 47 year old front-end programmer with a new hobby. Well, not entirely new. I did have a simple compound microscope as a kid. That memory made me get a stereo microscope some fifteen years back. I use it once in a while for insects and stuff.
A while back I started watching 'journey to the microcosmos'. I ordered their kickstarter microscope (because I was too lazy to do my own research and what-the-hell-I-never-spend-money-on-myself-anyway). I got it last week and I'm completely hooked.
I never realised our worm-poop-composter is so alife, or the algae running down from our rain collector is full of vorticella and tardigrades.
I want to learn what the rest of these creatures are. So I ended up here.

Hi Ron,

We have a lot in common. Also recently hooked with my new hobby collecting specimens in the dark rainy days here in NL while working at home as a fullstack developer. I already have found this forum really helpful. Very nice people with a lot of knowledge.

(Veel plezier en PB me als je ergens niet uitkomt.)

Groeten Marcel

That is a common experience, as is working in information systems. You will fit in well here.

Best Regards,

Welcome, Sjeiti, hope you have time for microscopy to expand your world views. You should spend more money on yourself. charlie g, fingerlakes/US
