Evening all, I’m a horologist and have just picked up an old vickers bench microscope and am here to ask some questions to help me find out more about my instrument.
Thanks for any help In advance.

You have a really good scope. The heavy base is there to keep it as vibration free as possible, so don't mount it on a card table. It should give you a lifetime of service.
