Interesting article: Getting the best out of a basic microscope

#1 Post by MicroBob » Sun Mar 14, 2021 6:23 am

Hi,
Rolf Vossen has written an interesting article here:

https://microscopyofnature.com/getting- ... microscope

He shows how much can be acheived with simple microscopes when set up and used in a clever way. The methods can be applied on many cheap import microscopes and older school microscopes and the like. Experienced microscopists usually don't use those basic microscopes so there is no one to show how these basic instuments can perform in the right hands. This makes Rolfs article so interesting.

.

An excellent link, Bob

It is all too easy for newcomers to be confused by the availability of [and therefore the perceived need for] exotic instruments.

This article is a ‘breath of fresh air’ ... Thanks for featuring it.

Superb - what a clean, clear and eminently useful web-site that one is.
The article as said is a nice fresh perspective and certainly very encouraging for the earlier stages of microscopy.

Thanks for this link, in particular, if you're recently new to microscopy give this one a look!

Thanks for this link Bob. An excellent article which could well be considered required reading, and not just for "newbies".

Figures 3 and 4 are very very useful and shows how we should use the objective back focal plane.

It is amazing and surprising what experienced microscopists like Rolf can do, with a simple horseshoe straight tube microscope.

This is some pretty high end imaging for a microscope without condenser. Thanks for posting.
