fiber optic light source buzzing noise how to fix ?
I have an old prior halogen fiberoptic light source it makes loud buzzing noise at any setting except full brightness I think it's the dimming component a little black cylinder does anyone know if these are standard? wondering if I can replace it and make the buzzing quieter or stop many thanks
Re: fiber optic light source buzzing noise how to fix ?
All the illuminators I have (either built into microscopes or separate) that have a TRIAC dimmer followed by 60 Hz step-down transformer make an annoying buzz. The buzz goes away at full brightness because the TRIAC is not switching but I think the buzz sound itself comes mainly from the transformer so replacing the dimmer module probably will not help. On illuminators I have where the electronics were dead or I wanted to use a different voltage bulb I have bypassed the electronics and powered the bulb directly from an adjustable lab/bench supply, which also has the nice side effect of getting rid of the buzz.
