Leica DM series K1a versus K1b DIC prisms?

Hoping someone knows the difference between the K1a and K1b condenser-mounted DIC prisms? These are meant to provide DIC with a 5x objective and far as I can tell require the top condenser lens down for the K1a and maybe allow it to be up for the K1b???
If you've used Leica DM series DIC with a 5x Plan N or Plan Fluotar objective - any impressions of the image quality?
