OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
I have come across this OFR 15X objective. I have very little information about its characteristics
Have any of you experience with it?
Is it good?
Regards
Steve

Too many 'projects'
Re: OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
Hi Steve,
probably the brother of this one: https://www.thorlabs.com/thorproduct.cf ... MU-10X-UVB
You will probably know when you have a use for it. It not intended for ordinarymicroscopy stuff.

Re: OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
Bob, MichelG Thank you for your responses. Bob I am surprised by the link that you have found and thanks to it I have been able to find the attached page. I had seen it for sale a long time ago but since the OFR logo didn't tell me anything I let it pass. By chance last Friday I saw it again and I was curious about the front lens assembly housing I decided to acquire it.
As soon as it arrives and confirm that it is in perfect condition, as I was assured by the seller, I will give you my personal opinion keeping in mind that I am only an amateur.
Thank you very much, again.

Re: OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
Hi Steve,
for normal microscopy it will probably be nothing special. But if you can assemble a complete UV transitting light path you may be able to do some quite interesting things with it. I never had a closer look at UV microscopy so perhaps you can report what you can acheive with this special piece of equipment.

Re: OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
Objective has arrived. Looks in good shape.
By the size of the nosepiece thread it must be an old objective. I include a modified drawings of the original 15X objective from THORNLABS in which can be seen the differences between my objective and the current one.
Bob, I don't know if I will be able to assemble a complete UV transitting light path. I am sure I will need a lot of help
I will ask THORLABS if they can provide me with more information about this objective. Maybe they will do, I will give it a try.
The only way I have to test it now is to use it with my camera

If you are curious, Jonathan Crowther has done amazing work converting his Olympus BH info a UV microscope. I'll link to one of his blog posts below, there are several other interesting ones if you search his blog.

Re: OFR (OPTICS FOR RESEARCH)
Thank you Viktor for the link.
Today Thorlab has answered me.
"Dear Steve,
thank you for contacting Thorlabs. You are correct that Optics for Research was acquired by Thorlabs a few years ago. The OFR objective LMU-15X-UVB is very similar to the objective with the same name sold by Thorlabs. Attached i send you a page from an old OFT catalog that lists several specifications.
However, the diameter on the thickest part and the threadings do not match. It also looks a bit different on the part with the threading. I am not aware that this was sold with another threading. Would it be possible that your lens already has an adapter on it?
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards
Maximilian Engl"
He was right it had an outer ring, now it fits in the microscope. Great company!!!
