Dynoptic question

#1 Post by perrywespa » Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:58 pm

I was gifted an old B&L Dynoptic, the "pidgeon breast" style of body. It needs objectives and a condenser. What objectives do I need to look for similar to the originals? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

The brass apos are good and there is an achromat condenser on an akehurst slide that the would sell I bet for $50 if you asked nice on the ole garage sale site You can also put the phase contrast set on there if you like. No "flat field" or plan lenses from B&L will work (except the Galen lenses that are a bit longer). Make sure you get the compens eyepieces for the apos, but Huygens or wide field eyepieces work if you end up with achromats

I have sent you a p.m. I have lots of objectives for your scope. Some of them n.o.s. Even a 30X .55 N.A.
Lots of eyepieces and various condensers.

I have one but it is dedicated to a 1930's research stand with a DF condenser. I would kind of like to keep the set together at this point. Good ones are becoming rare. I guess it would be a really nice addition to a Dynoptic zoom.
I probably have a 1.30 90X with iris, though.

Oh boy a DDS with a cardiod condenser and two immersion apos that'd be a hell of a load out for sure.

I'd take a look at that iris lens.

Uh oh, more competition for Dynoptic parts... Did yours come with an illuminator? That's the main thing I'm still trying to get set up on mine.

The pigeon breast referred to is the large binocular housing used on the last horseshoe Dynoptics. They had a coaxial low focus and could be had with a nice dropdown coaxial slide control. Due to the inertia in the microscope market the shift from high end horseshoe stands to their in base illumination descendants, took a bit of time so the same optics covered both in most cases as one phased out and the other in. There isn't much else common .The pigeon breast model actually had a trinocular.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. Hans, no illuminator. I think it had a mirror originally but it's missing that as well. I haven't decided yet if I want to try to make it operational. Depends on cost.
