Leitz Wetzlar microscope base and light source
Leitz Wetzlar microscope base and light source
Hello all. I am a medical student and the anatomy lab at my school recently threw out some of their old equipment. I received this ancient-looking microscope that seems to be missing some parts, including one objective. I am interested in getting it back into functional shape. It seems to be missing some kind of base and a light source. Would anyone be able to enlighten me regarding what part I should be seeking out?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Looks like a micro projector, with prism at the top, where an eyepiece would normally be located?
Re: Leitz Wetzlar microscope base and light source
Definately a micro projector. There should be a fairly large illumination box that goes below the optics and the required power supply for the arc lamp. Could be 450w or 150w xenon arc lamp. Depends on vintage

you will never get a working microscope out of this. But it contains some quite valuable parts like the mirror device, the ocular and the objectives.
Best is to sell this components and buy some microscope with the money.

Looks a bit moldy. Make sure to check those objectives to see if they're still ok.

I was wondering about this... Could you explain why I couldn't get it working again?

Yeah it probably is working right now take the prism off the top and look through the eyepiece shine a flashlight at the mirror at the bottom I bet you can see just fine.
Ergonomically it looks a little challenging unless you actually use it as a projector but it looks mostly fine

I considered you want to restore the original condition.
It will be quite hard or even impossible to find the missing parts.
You could build some self made stand and lightning system, of course.
