Color saturation in videos

#1 Post by Javier » Mon Jul 19, 2021 2:01 pm

Hi,

I recorded the attached video of a Bdelloid Rotifer yesterday, and despite I don't expect to get high-quality videos with my current equipment, I wonder why the color saturation is that low compared to most of the microscopy works I see. Is it because of the afocal technique, the quality of my optics, or something related to my microscopy or post-processing skills?

Thanks in advance,
Javier.

I tried playing with the saturation of another video from the same sample. Would you say this is better? Or it would be somehow artificial?

well how does the image compare to what you see through the eyepiece?

I think I see something between the two videos through the eyepiece. Hard to tell, though...

The second video does not appear to be oversaturated from my experience. My problems with cameras are usually with hue, and I check very frequently against the eyepiece view.

And do you adjust your hue accordingly?

Definitely. I am paranoid about the LED lighting I use having strange effects on the camera. Anyway, I calibrate every time I open the software I use.
