Curious to hear what people load. I cant imagine a 100x earns a spot....
Let me know what you load....

Yeah suppose a 60x immersion would be somewhat more versatile

Oh yeah on the Dynazoom I have a 10, 20, 40 and 100x imm phase contrast set. Zoom is nice but you're still essentially dealing with a set of numerical apertures

You mean objectives? Resolution depends largely on n.a.. So in case one has a 63 and a 100 to compare one would just try out which resolves better, 63x1,6 or 100x1,0. In my case a delaminated Zeiss Planapo 63 1,4 doesn't outresolve a 100 1,32.
But the much more interesting use of the Optovar is in the lower powers: A 10:1 n.a.0,3 or 25:1 n.a. 0,65 or 40:1 n.a. 0,95 can support more magnification than combined 100x or 250x or 400x. And in case of small objects that don't fill the frame the camera has an easier job with a post magnified image.
The Optovar is a really nice add-on.

Currently I've got:
2.5x F
6.3x / 0.2 Neofluar
16x / 0.4 Neofluar
25x / 0.65 Planapo
63x / 0.9 Neofluar (with correction)
That gives me a full range of mags with continuous small steps and a little overlap in the mid-range (25-32x). The 2.5x is just for scanning the slides really.
For photography in Darkfield I'd swap either the 2.5x or 63x for the 10x / 0.3 Neofluar giving lots of overlap in the mid-range - giving the same mags with different NA - really useful. Up to and including the 25x the view looks great even with the Optovar at 2x.
If I want Phase I swap the 16x for the PH2 version and the 63x for the 40x / 0.75 Neofluar PH2. Again that gives a fairly full range of options in both Phase (16-32x, 40-80x) and BF/DF (2.5-12x, 25-50 x). My 16x PH2 is delaminated so not so good in DF. This is my default set for visual observation of protists.
For immersion I have a 63x / 1.25 Neofluar which, with the Optovar, gives better results than any of the 100x objectives I have. It has a deeply concave front element though, which makes cleaning off the oil tricky.

Eventually I will get out of Astronomy land, and start calling the relatively fixed end the EP.
This is what I was looking for.

I use mine fairly often, though it doesn't work well with epi DIC beyond 1.25x. At 2x the DIC doubling starts to become objectionable, so having a 100x on hand is still situationally useful even though its na is lower than my 50x/0.95.

Interesting aspect, Scarodactyl, I wouldn't have expected this and would have searched elsewhere for a solution of the problem. I have only fragments of epi DIC and for that reson have no real experiene with it.Scarodactyl wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 5:42 pm... it doesn't work well with epi DIC beyond 1.25x.
