Hi Glen,
thank you for the document! It is very interesting to read as many technical details are not just listed but also explained. What I didn't know: Zeiss had in the W-stand already the system with the single eyepiece type for all objectives, a major invention at this time.
Historically the W is quite interesting: The Americans deported all leading management and scientists from Zeiss in Jena, eastern occupation zone to be. But they had to leave the master craftsmen and craftsmen. So togehter with a few local craftsmen from Oberkochen and some they attracted from Jena they must have been a somewhat unbalanced company. To me the W seems to be a bit overengineered with too little though about the involved cost. It was soon replaced with the GF and GFL, made in Götingen, not Oberkochen.
